Our speaker this month is Clete Rooney. Clete Rooney is an archaeologist researching processes of social change in displaced populations. His research re-frames archaeological approaches to migration and diaspora, integrating historic archaeology with contemporary cultural anthropology on social transformation, migration, and displacement. Clete has a BA from Rollins College, and an MA from the University of Alabama. He is currently working on a PhD from the University of Florida. He has sixteen years of archaeological field experience, supervising field projects in over a dozen states.

Edward Gonzalez-Tennant is a historical archaeologist interested in the intersection of violence and race in the recent past. His research combines virtual archaeology and digital storytelling to analyze and describe the community of Rosewood, Florida – site of a 1923 race riot which destroyed this majority African American town. He will be discussing documentary archaeology, potentials for an archaeology of race riots, and how virtual technologies can be used to create new forms of public outreach. Ed has conducted research in Norway, Alaska, New Zealand, China, the Caribbean, and the across the US. He holds a BA from the University of Arkansas, an MS from Michigan Technological University, an MA from UF, and is completing his PhD at UF.
